Global Game Jam has opened site registration for its 2027 edition, inviting schools, studios and community groups to host a local jam from January 25th to 31st, 2027.

Exact dates depend on each local site. Organisers said hosts do not need to be large organisations, since what matters most is “creating a welcoming space where jammers can connect and work together.”

Applicants register on the Global Game Jam website, and the team then guides them through setup. Studios and communities in MENA and Africa can register [here](https://globalgamejam.org/?ref=bijetic.com).

**Growing its footprint in MENA and Africa**

The 2026 edition was the 17th. PocketGamer.biz reported that about 40,000 people join each year across roughly 800 local sites in more than 100 countries.

Africa has its own spin-off. Global Game Jam and Lagos Games Week ran the Pan African Jam from April 24th to May 11th, 2026, open to developers across the continent with a $2,500 prize pool.

In MENA, Global Game Jam is [working with Abu Dhabi-based Zoud on a financial literacy jam](https://www.pocketgamer.biz/global-game-jam-and-zoud-launch-financial-literacy-jam-with-140k-prize-pool/?ref=bijetic.com). It runs until November 15th with up to $140,000 in prizes and development support, and winners are expected in mid-December.
