DMCC and Wild Unlimited reveal Fortnite island built around Dubai landmarks
DMCC Gaming Centre and games company Wild Unlimited have revealed Dubai Developed in Fortnite 2033, a Fortnite island that recreates the emirate's landmarks, set to go live on November 11th.
Wild Unlimited built the experience independently using Unreal Editor for Fortnite. It is an open-world and team-based map with exploration and competitive challenges and team objectives.
Locations include Al Fahidi Fort, Almas Tower, Uptown Dubai, Skydive Dubai, Kite Beach, SALT and Dubai Harbour. Students at the American University in Dubai recreated their campus for it after a February masterclass on the tools.
DMCC said later editions will add destinations and gameplay features and open the island to creators and commercial partners.
A launch event and an AR hunt
A public launch event and Wild Game Fest take place at SALT in Kite Beach on November 11th. The Dubai Drop campaign began on 1 November with augmented reality loot boxes across the city.
Residents can collect items and redeem prizes from partners at the festival. The island is independent and is not sponsored or endorsed by Epic Games.
The project ties into the Dubai Program for Gaming 2033. "Our ambition is clear: games made in Dubai, by talent developed in Dubai, played by the world," said DMCC CEO and executive chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem.
