Ugandan developer Emanzi releases Katana Kitsune
Control female kitsune warriors...
Ugandan independent developer Emanzi, who releases games as 9-K9, has released Katana Kitsune, an isometric action roguelike inspired by Japanese folklore.
Players control female kitsune warriors fighting through procedurally assembled floors filled with yōkai.
Environments include sakura gardens, bamboo forests, abandoned shrines, desert ruins and frozen passes, with dynamic weather such as rain, snow, petals and sandstorms.
Choose how you fight
Players can draw or sheath their katana mid-fight. A drawn blade suits aggressive play built around charged strikes, dodges and timed counters after a well-timed block. Sheathed, players can sneak, which shrinks the distance at which enemies detect them, and strike before the yōkai react.
Supernatural scrolls grant temporary powers, and characters are upgraded between floors. The game supports solo play with up to three configurable AI companions, each set to Aggressive, Defensive, Stealth or Passive behaviour.
Players can revive fallen allies or temporarily take control of one. Local multiplayer supports up to four players, with online co-op across browser and desktop builds.
The game is free to play in the browser, with downloads for Windows, Linux and macOS. Players can play Katana Kitsune on itch.io.
